The Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications (HKCAAVQ) hosted its Press Conference and Media Luncheon today (28 December 2021), as it announced that it has undergone an external review coordinated by the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (hereafter refer to as ENQA) on evaluating HKCAAVQ in meeting the European Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance (ESG) in the European Higher Education Area (EHEA). HKCAAVQ is the first quality assurance agency in the Asia-Pacific region and outside the EHEA and Europe to have obtained “substantial compliance” in the external review.
Mr Esmond LEE Chung-sin, Deputy Secretary for Education, remarked the recognition from ENQA, a top quality assurance agency with long history in Europe, is testimony to the leading role of HKCAAVQ in the region, fully affirming the endeavours by the HKCAAVQ since its establishment in 1990 and acknowledging the contributions by HKCAAVQ to Hong Kong’s academic and vocational education and training.
Mr Rock CHEN Chung-nin, SBS, JP, Council Chairman of HKCAAVQ, said he is delighted to see HKCAAVQ’s work on quality assurance has gained global recognition. This encouraging result proved the determination and hard work of HKCAAVQ to meet the highest standards, which would not be possible without the support and contributions from different sectors. Gaining ENQA’s global recognition unequivocally represents a milestone in HKCAAVQ’s commitment to quality assurance, and HKCAAVQ will continue to strive for excellence and explore further strategic development.
During the Press Conference, Mr Albert Chow, Executive Director of HKCAAVQ and Mr Steve Lai, General Manager of the Qualifications Framework Secretariat (QFS), further introduced the HKCAAVQ’s work in support of the development of the education and training sector in the Greater Bay Area (GBA), as well as promotion of the development of the Guangdong Province’s Lifelong Education Qualifications Framework.
