Collaborative/Participative governance enhances engagement of stakeholders and promotes a harmonious and productive culture for achieving institutional goals.
Purpose
The purpose of this practice is to help realise the vision and missions of institutions. Collaborative/participative governance emphasises open communication and participation of stakeholders in governance and decision making that encourages interaction among senior officers, staff and students. It can deepen stakeholders’ sense of belonging through engaging them in different committees at various levels and in evaluation activities. Staff will have greater ownership of the policies/decisions made under the framework of collaborative/participative governance. The sense of ownership will motivate staff to work towards common goals. The concerted effort of staff, as a result, will foster a productive culture within the institution.
Outcome
The outcome of this practice is that with the inclusive policies developed, management, staff and stakeholders work together for the achievement of institutional goals.
